Yes. The Course at Sewanee is open to the public and welcomes golfers of all skill levels. Tee times are recommended and can be booked online or by calling the golf shop.

Is there a cancellation policy/what is the refund policy?

The Course at Sewanee – Tee Time Cancellation & Refund Policy

  1. General Cancellations & Modifications
    To ensure all golfers have access to the tee sheet, The Course at Sewanee requires a minimum of 24 hours notice to cancel or reduce the player count of any reservation.
  • Group bookings of eight (8) or more players require a minimum of 72 hours notice for any cancellations or modifications.
  • Cancellations made outside of these windows will receive a full refund to the original payment method.
  • Cancellations or reductions made inside these windows will be charged 50% of the applicable green fee to the credit card on file.
  1. No-Show Policy
    Failure to arrive for a scheduled tee time without prior notice (“No-Show”) will result in a 100% charge of the scheduled green fees to the credit card holding the reservation. If a booking party arrives with fewer players than reserved (e.g., a foursome arrives as a threesome), the booking holder will be charged the full green fee for the missing player(s).
  2. Inclement Weather & Rain Checks
    Refunds or rain checks are determined based on course playability, not personal comfort. If the course is officially closed by the Course Superintendent due to severe weather or lightning:

For 9 Hole Paid Customers

  • Fewer than 4 holes completed: Players will receive a 9-hole rain check voucher valid for future play.

For 18 Hole Paid Customers

  • Fewer than 4 holes completed: Players will receive a 18-hole rain check voucher valid for future play.
  • 4-9 Holes Completed: Players will receive a 9-hole rain check voucher valid for future play.
  • 9 or more holes completed: The round is considered complete, and no rain checks or refunds will be issued.
  1. Sewanee University Affiliates
    Students, faculty, staff, and alumni must present a valid University ID or credentials at check-in to honor affiliate rates. Abuse of booking privileges, including repeated no-shows or late cancellations, will result in a temporary suspension of online booking privileges in addition to standard financial penalties.

How many holes does the course have?

The Course at Sewanee features a historic nine-hole layout with alternate tees that create two distinct loops, allowing golfers to enjoy a unique 18-hole experience.

Who designed the course?

Originally established in 1915, the course was reimagined by acclaimed golf course architect Gil Hanse and Jim Wagner, with renovations completed in 2013.

Is walking allowed?

Yes. The Course at Sewanee is designed to be enjoyed on foot. Limited golf carts may be available; please contact the golf shop for availability. Online tee time rates are for walking.

Do you offer memberships?

Yes. The Course at Sewanee offers several membership options for University students, faculty, alumni, local residents, and corporate groups. Memberships include unlimited greens fees.

Do University students receive special rates?

Yes. Special membership opportunities are available for University of the South students. Contact the golf shop for current offerings and eligibility requirements.

Can I host an event at The Course at Sewanee?

Absolutely. The Course at Sewanee hosts golf outings, tournaments, fundraisers, corporate events, and small private gatherings at the Golf Lodge. Contact our team to learn more about available event packages.

Do you offer Stay & Play packages?

Yes. Guests can pair a round at The Course at Sewanee with accommodations at The Sewanee Inn for a memorable golf getaway. Stay & Play packages may include golf rounds, dining credits, and additional amenities.

Is there a restaurant on-site?

Yes. Green’s View Grill is located adjacent to the golf course and offers a casual dining experience with scenic views of the course and surrounding landscape.

What should I wear?

Golf attire is required. Collared shirts are required for men, and denim is not permitted. Appropriate golf shorts, skorts, and golf footwear are encouraged.

Is there a driving range or practice area?

Yes. The Course at Sewanee offers practice facilities to help golfers warm up and improve their game before heading to the first tee. The Driving Range is Irons Only.

Does the golf shop sell apparel and equipment?

Yes. The golf shop carries apparel, accessories, golf balls, headwear, and gift items from many leading golf brands.
